Contemporary art from Ghana is dynamic and vibrant. Constantly evolving, it is at the forefront of a renewed interest in contemporary African art. New Perspectives: Contemporary Art from Ghana is a celebration of the diversity and richness of contemporary Ghanaian art. The volume surveys an art scene that is ebullient and multi-faceted. Featuring the work of 60 contemporary artists from across different generations and backgrounds, working in various mediums, it offers a unique glimpse into the soul of Ghana through the eyes of her artists. Liberally illustrated, the artists’ statements and essays about their work and influences are supplemented with critical essays by distinguished scholars of modern and contemporary African art. These critical essays give a historical overview of Ghanaian contemporary art, the institutions and art professionals who have helped develop its art world eco system and infrastructure, into what it is today. Foreword is written by art historian Kobena Mercer. The contributors are, Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Nii Bonney Andrews, Jelle Bowhuis, Ama de-Graft Aikins, Elvira Dyangani Ose, Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh and Rhoda Woets.
